Filtering Blue Light Like the Natural Lens
The AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL is available with a new lens technology which is designed to have light-filtering abilities that approximate the light transmission of the human lens.
The human lens has the natural ability to filter UV and blue light. Unlike other UV-absorbing IOLs, this lens is designed to filter light similar to the human lens.
The AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens is composed entirely of AcrySof® lens material, with the addition of ultraviolet (UV) and blue-light filtering chromophores. Like the natural human lens, the new AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens filters both UV and high-energy blue light¹. Studies of the AcrySof® Natural IOL show that blue light-filtering IOLs provide excellent visual acuity, without statistically significant differences in colour perception or contrast sensitivity².
Clinical studies with the blue light-filtering IOLs demonstrated excellent results with:
- Visual acuity
- Colour perception
- Contrast sensitivity
- The long-term effects of filtering blue light and the clinical efficacy of that filtering on the retina have not been conclusively established.
